Today was another FUN Friday in my room! I love rewarding the kids for their efforts with FUN and engaging activities. :) Today in my kindergarten groups, we practiced sight words in a game that I like to call SPLAT!
I have a bulletin board with fly swatters and words. I call out the word and the student gets to SPLAT the word with the fly swatter. I have dry erase decals with flowers on the board now, but maybe next year I'll change them to bugs or bees! We'll see! After they had individual turns and I saw that they were not WHACKING the board as hard as they could, I let them race against each other with 2 fly swatters! So fun!
In my second grade groups, we worked on vowel teams and diphthongs! They love anything BINGO, so I made this BINGO game! You can get your Vowel Team BINGO game here.
Only 39 student days until summer break... I can't believe how fast this year has gone by!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Fun Friday

On Fridays we have fun games in the Reading Resource Room! (As long as the kids have been showing effort all week!) In my first grade groups, we had a "performance" for our reading buddies. This is a fun way for the kids to practice their reader's theaters. It gives them a purpose and motivation for rereading the play 3 times a week! By the end of the week they are rockstars!! :) They love hearing comments from the reading buddies in the audience, too!
After the performance, we played Bossy R Bingo. We have been working on those R-controlled vowels all week! Get your copy of this activity here.
Thanks for stopping by! Have a great weekend!

Today in my kindergarten groups, we worked on counting syllables. The students looked at food picture cards, clapped the syllables, and sorted them into the numbered lunch boxes! Since I didn't have real lunch boxes, I put the printed lunch boxes in sheet protectors so the kids could slide the pictures into those. They loved it! You can get this activity for FREE this week at my TpT store. Check it out here.

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great weekend!

Woohoo!! I am soOo excited to start blogging about one of my greatest passions...teaching reading! I am a reading resource/Title I teacher and it is so FUN! I will be blogging to share fun reading strategies and hope to meet some awesome people along the way!

Today in one of my second grade reading groups, we worked on Cause and Effect. In this activity, students rolled the ball (cause) and hit the pins (effect). Then I gave them a cause card and they had to choose the effect from the lovely air conditioning vent! They just thought it was the COOLEST activity ever (no pun intended. haha!) This was our warm-up activity before we read a story called Bonk and the Lucky Buckeye! (It's a book from Reading A-Z.) I LOVE Reading A-Z especially as a Reading Resource teacher! Anyways, thanks for checking out my NEW blog!! :)
